prompt #19: what brings you peace?
i need to give myself a little peace after everything that's been going on in my household, and just life in general. so, in a way this is a reminder to myself. here's a list:
variety shows. as chaotic as they are, i love watching people that i love have fun playing games and cracking jokes. i stumbled across variety shows in middle school when i first got into korean culture. running man was the first variety show i ever watched, and now i watch a couple more that feature a lot of korean bands and figures. american game shows are fun to watch too.
reading. not only is it addicting, it's soothing. if i pick up a good book, i may not put it down for hours. i used to bring stacks of books home from the library and be almost done with one book by the time we got home. i don't read as often and for as long as i did before, but i still do enjoy getting attached to fictional characters and plot twists that leave me stunned. it gives me a break from reality once in a while. i am a mystery, romance, poetry, and cultural book enthusiast.
completing tasks and dealing with things that have been on my mind for too long. when i am faced with deadlines and life crises, i am left stressed and uneasy for days, as anyone would be. when i can finally put those things to rest, i am at peace. the feeling of checking off that to do list or seeing the "assignment submitted" screen is like a flock of birds leaving my body after being perched on it for hours.
mindful breathing. growing up as a buddhist, my mom and grandma always emphasized the importance of praying and finding a quiet space. because of that i've begun to practice short meditations. i can never sit still for too long, therefore i just breathe and connect my mind and body for minutes at a time. i try my best to feel my breath "traveling" to each part of my body. i let out any negative thoughts i have, replacing them with positive affirmations. it's helped me at night when i can't sleep too!
music. the right song will soothe ya. which reminds me, *promo* i have a new playlist i will upload soon called "floating," and honeeey. it is beautiful. you just wanna dance on the clouds. anyways, music has been my safe haven as you've all heard. it continues to be something i can turn to when i need some peace. singing late at night is something i always do to get into my zone as well.
the outdoors. i love being outside. taking walks, going up mountains, walking through parks, sitting in a field, beaches, the cool breeze; i love it all. only thing that "bugs" (i'm sorry) me are the bugs because i will run faster than you've ever seen. other than that, being outside just makes my problems seem smaller. the world is so beautiful, and i will never see it all, but it's a blessing to be able to see what i can. that's why we should all work to keep the earth healthy!
other miscellaneous things: baking, drawing & painting, asmr (do not judge me, it can actually be good for insomnia), showers, rain at night
once again, feel free to comment and answer the prompt too! i will happily read your answers. thank you for reading once again. it means a lot to me 🤍 till next time voizies.
