currently writing this from sweet hut bakery & cafe (mmh. see, i started there, but i finished this at home), the place i used to work and now a place i frequent just so i can get out the house. they're a little busy & it worries me a bit, but i wanted to write and draw a little at a different location. my house can be suffocating. how are voizies? always gotta ask of course.

prompt #15: what makes you unique?
the things that make me unique are kind of generic. does that make sense? like they're unique to me, but anybody else could say the same thing about what makes them unique. there are a couple outliers, but we'll get into that soon enough.
so, a generic quality that makes me unique is my creativity. i consume a lot of creative content through social media, and the things that people are capable of are mind-blowing. i think that i tend to use my creativity with words and photography. it's something that someone could easily pin point if they knew me. i like to be expressive through various forms of art: poetry, literature, photography, sometimes drawings, and music. side note, if you haven't, you should check out my poetry and my photography tabs. thanks ;) if we have to get into specifics then with poetry, i am a sucker for odd imagery, clever wordplay, anti-stasis (repeating a word, but the meaning is different the second time) and assonance (repetition of vowel sounds). with visuals, i kind of enjoy everything? exaggerated/abstract or like really cute and vibrant art or modern twists on old concepts catch my eye. i'll put some examples from artists i like below. you should go check them out! in addition to that, i love interpretation. i like analyzing movies and paintings. i like to find meaning to things that may not require me to do so. i draw from my own experiences and from what could be to see if i can pinpoint what somebody was trying to convey verbally, visually, sonically. connecting ideas that may seem vastly different is so fun; there are countless possibilities.
my creativity is my core. i like to act on it too. if i have an idea, i (mostly) try to go ahead and make it happen. song lyric? go write it. blog idea? start typing. photoshoot? go tell your sister and start planning to shoot. i can be lazy, but i will work endlessly to make an idea come true and perfect it. because i like so many things in the creative field, i think my future outlook may be different from others too. i don't see myself doing one thing. i want to be a multi-hyphenate and never in one place. i want to try it all. there's so much to do and see in the world. i hope i can find the means and motivation to go try them all in some form, big or small. modeling, design, music, writing, traveling, marketing, hell teaching english in korea. if i can have a taste of all the things i love, my life will have been worth living. easier said than done, of course, but here's to trying.
that brings me to my next unique trait: my love for music. i love it very, very much. i occasionally like to write lyrics. it happens rather spontaneously though. i also have a thing where if i know you for a fair amount of time, and you've shown me at least two songs you like, i'd probably be able to make a rather accurate playlist based on what i perceive your music taste to be. i don't know if i will end up in the music industry, but i always wanted to be apart of it in some way. there are so many soundscapes that you can experience, so many emotions. everybody has their own style with music, and discovering new artists and their sound stamp gives me serotonin. my spotify wrapped numbers? insane. music surpasses all barriers. it's transportive. it's here when nobody else is and understands you when nobody else does. it's been my safe place for a very long time. singing has been one of my passions since i was a child, and i am grateful to have that gift, and to be apart of the musical experiences that i've been in thus far. making music with people i love, being apart of the audience at concerts, and having the chance to learn more about music in college have been blessings.
other than my interests, i think that my background is something that makes me unique. growing up as a first-generation american in my vietnamese family in a place where nobody really looked like me gives me both unique character traits and perspectives. i'm bilingual (viet and english), working on being tri with a glimmer of hope of being quad (spanish and korean, if my ass would just sit down and study). not that special, but i am proud :) i know a good bit about my vietnamese culture and carry some values and traditions that my parents have taught me from when they were living in vietnam. that being said, i have blended those traditional values with the very open-minded and modern values of the people of my generation in america. it puts me in a very weird middle ground, and if you know me as a person, you'll see that. i get my reserved and cautious nature from my parents, but my views on social issues are almost entirely from society, my friends, and me learning through making my own judgments. i'm a weird blend. being asian american has its own set of hurdles and stances. i rarely meet other asians because i used to live in a predominantly black area and now live in a predominantly white area. there were never many like me, and that made me stand out in physical and family related ways. it also made me realize that the way i feel in this country is very special. also, if you have spoken to me, you probably noticed that my vernacular is a bit unexpected. given there shouldn't be any expectations as to what i sound like, it does stun people for a quick second when a southern twang comes out my mouth. you can thank clayton county for that one.
last thing, i think that my emotions paired with my imagination make me different. i feel things deeper and stronger than most. i romanticize a bit much. i daydream and create scenarios at an unhealthy level. i'm too altruistic and idealistic. it can be a strength and a weakness. i can connect and sympathize with people much easier than those around me. i can also get a little too lost in emotions that reality and logic cannot get through to me. i can almost always help, even just an ounce, when it comes to anxiety ridden, stressful, and sensitive situations. i can also give too much of my time and emotions that i forget about my own well-being. i am strong, but i do require a lot of care. i am still working to balance my emotions, but something that makes life a bit more meaningful and/or interesting. i get lost in how i feel and fantastical situations that may never happen, and it can be dangerous because it blurs reality. but hey, what's life without imagination? let's just hope i don't get entirely lost in them.
this was a fun little prompt. it required me to dig though because i don't just go around thinking about what makes me unique, ya know? i think ya know. tell me what makes you unique. y'all are interesting and lovely peeps. do share :) till next time voizies 🥰
